Did the selected language matter?
*zap*
Nope.
Did you need to be holding the handset?

Nope.
Did it need to be off-hook?
*zap*
Nope.

I called my friend over to show him this neat discovery I’d made.

His only question: “why do you keep touching it?”

When I was about 12, a friend and I were at a historical site with one of those machines with a phone handset you pick up and it tells you about the site. I picked up the handset, changed the language selector, got an electric shock, dropped the handset.

Then I repeated the experiment.

I was just about to call something "the least surprising news of the week" when I remembered that Pittsburgh business outfit ran an article about how if you pay better people will apply to your jobs more.

About two weeks ago a white guy in my town assaulted an Asian father & son, then a black¹ woman who tried to intervene, at our grocery store. He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday. I just a earched Twitter for any updates; ~⅓ the posts are people saying this shows black crime is underreported. 🤦🏻😢

¹ I think? I can’t find an article that specifies, but he called her a racial slur typically targeted at black folks.

A breakfast story in three parts:

Celeste: “Bite?“
Me: [gives her scrambled egg on toast]
Celeste: [sucks off egg without biting toast]

Celeste: “Bite?“
Me: [gives her scrambled egg on toast]
Me: “Bite!”
Celeste: [sucks off egg without biting toast]
Me: “You stinker.”

Celeste: “Bite?“
Me: [gives her scrambled egg on toast]
Me: “Bite!”
Celeste: [sucks off egg without biting toast]
Celeste, grinning: “Stinker?”

hey all, here's a new computer thing I made! it's called the Nonsense Laboratory, and it's a series of weird little tools for manipulating the spelling and sound of words with machine learning: artsexperiments.withgoogle.com

it's part of a series of projects launched yesterday showing the outcomes of the Artists + Machine Intelligence grant program, which you can learn more about here: experiments.withgoogle.com/ami

It is absolutely stupid that competitive fundraising works as well as it does on me, but I like seeing friends on the leaderboards. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I like the idea of a "/now" page, but it's real tempting to just have it made from the output of 'finger'.

Artists whose work I admire getting into NFTs makes me so sad. Like I have to figure out whether they’re being scammed or are in on it, and there’s no good answer.

@Gargron Hi. I think you’re doing very well. Thanks.

A kiss with a fist is absolutely not better than none, Florence.

Black Lives Matter.

And there is still much work to do.

This is a picture of me walking around the house trying to figure out where I left my headphones.

Celeste, I’m pretty sure the problem with the lawnmower is electrical. Put down the monkey wrench; it’s time you’ve learned to use a multimeter.

Well, Celeste can now open my toolbox and is trying to fix the ride-on mower with a monkey wrench.

Hi. It is 2021. If your organization accepts things by fax but not email, your process is broken.

Emma and I just got our firer haircuts in ~18 months, and Celeste got her first ever, at our house. It was weird, but I feel a lot lighter, which is nice.

Little Excavator, by Anna Dewdney.
Solid core message — urban development, and especially creating green spaces near population centers, is a worthwhile endeavor — but am concerned about the developmental model implied for construction equipment.

@mntmn I happened to notice that over on Twitter, mntmn follows the Plan 9 Foundation. And I’m just putting it out there: that’d be a pretty sweet port. ;-)
