I'm lucky to work with some wonderful people at Panic in downtown Portland (across from Powell's Books). Right now, we're looking for a Web Services Engineer to join us! I made this nice little video and everything. Check it out, if you're into web services, or maybe pass it on to someone you like? panic.com/blog/help-wanted-web

Look, I tear up easily.
BUT I teared up a little hearing the wind blowing on Mars, because humans are still capable of incredible things: youtube.com/watch?v=yT50Q_Zbf3

LANCELOT: Barkeep! Pray tell the name of the rum drink thou didst make for me time upon last

BARTENDER: ‘Twas a Dark ‘n’ Stormy, knight

Ahhhh the reports from Cassini’s final mission (before intentionally vaporizing) are being released. Amazing! Charged ring material falls into Saturn’s atmosphere and other brand-new F A C T S jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.php?fea

Putting a little bourbon on my feelings. (Just a splash; it’s a school night.)

Finally made my pumpkin mochi, as a test-run for our dim sum-themed Thanksgiving. They turned out super cute, but I need to improve my mochi texture.

F your I: PBOT has taken down a day early, and they have flaggers at either end of it to alert cyclists. Wish they'd just keep it up year round — it's so much better. I mean, it's right in the name!

Day 3: Our dog can already sit on request. We have the best pupper.

‪I was hoping to finish painting the fence and moving the bark chips to the back yard before the rains came back, but here we are (soaking wet).

It only occurred to me now, days later, that my XOXO karaoke song picks should have included “Exes and Ohs” by Elle King. Next year, I guess!

@Antichrista (nerd me is like, “ACTUALLY, moths differ from butterflies in several important ways…” hush, nerd me.)

Just told my 7yo that moths are nothing to be afraid of—they’re just “nighttime butterflies.” I don’t think she bought it, but I kinda like it? Moths are nighttime butterflies, everyone.

We did the corn maze BEFORE mud season, and it felt like a life hack. Definitely will still be mucking about in the pumpkin field come October, but this was a lovely afternoon.

We’re planning a dumpling Thanksgiving this year, and my realm is desserts. @neven found this Mochi pumpkin recipe that is THE GREATEST: thewoksoflife.com/2015/11/pump

So I’m going to try making them next week. Listen, it may be August, but we take Thanksgiving extremely seriously. 🎃🥟

I was going to make Whitman’s “I am large, I contain multitudes” a microbiota joke, but I googled to see if it’d been done… and it’s the title of a book about microbiota!

Last year, we moved into a house that allowed us, for the first time, to grow veggies in the garden. Tonight I picked our first haul of tomatoes and… They’re beautiful 😭 There’s still a truckload of them ripening on the plants, so it’s time to roll up the sleeves and start planning meals…

NASA’s flying some mice to space to learn how the absence of gravity affects their microbiota compared with control mice on Earth, and I just got so excited about it I said “hell yeah!” out loud to no one nasa.tumblr.com/post/177339668

Just saw BlackkKlansman. I don’t know how Spike Lee can pull off something that’s quirky, ominous, uplifting, and powerful—with moments of real comedy—all at once. And then when you’re reeling, he guts you completely. I want to read the book by Ron Stallworth that it’s based on. And I hope a lot of people see this film.

Vacation Day 1:

“It’s too hot out here; I’ll go inside,” he said.
20 minutes later, I peek in and he’s making gnocchi dough.
@neven’s gonna Neven
